Egypt Reflection
Egypt Reflection
The propose of the Egypt project was created for us, to explore the ancient world, their believes, culture, and finally the technology they had ahead of their time. Te topic I chose of Egypt was to re recreate The Temple of Abu Simbel. Why I chose this project, you might ask. Well I found a great interest in this sculpture, because -think about it- how could the Egyptians build something so huge and detailed out of rock, when I could barely do it out of clay, and at the size of my hand. It did not even look as half of beautiful and realistic as the real sculpture.
Some important facts about Abu Simbel were: The construction of the temple started about 1264 BCE, and lasted for about 20 years until 1244 BCE. This temple was dedicated to the sun gods Amon-Re and RE-Harakhte. The purpose of this magnificent temple was to impress Egypt's Southern neighbors, and to reinforce the status of Egyptian religion in the region.
The writing process that took to write my artistament was: First, I researched about Abu Simbel, and put it on a document. Second, I created another document which I explained my facts in my own words. Third, my classmates got to critique it. Finally, they made suggestions that I needed to have all the requirements. Finally, I modified a few things that my project needed to complete with the process.
My presentation in class was relaxing and helpful. I got to practice and receive constructive feedback. It was not challenging for me and it actually was really relaxing .To read my artistament in front of the whole class it really helped me to revise my artistament.
The actual scavenger hunt was a little bit stressful because before it began my object got destroyed. I was only able then to work with what I had so I just explained my object, and not use my recreation of Abu Simbel.a lot of kids did not think I was part of the scavenger hunt only because I did not have an object anymore.
The high lights of this project were. I learned a lot of Egypt with this little project. I really liked the mini project, because it was relaxing. I was most proud of accomplishing my object. If I could do something different in this project i would have not bought air dry clay. I really loved this mini project.
Project Purpose
The main purpose of this project was to learn about other cultures. I also believe it was to teach us about the ancient Greece, their beliefs, traditions, and the kind of society they had. In addition, their social life & Olympics, rights of women, art ,architecture, culture, education, childhood, schooling ,military , and leadership. We also learned how different Sparta was from Athens. Here are the steps we took to complete this wonderful project . First, we learned about greek methodology. After that, Mrs. Andrea told us to do a family tree. It was confusing because Zeus was a baby breeding machine, and some people in greek methodology married there uncles or brothers which in the end I understood their complicated family tree. Then Mrs. Andrea announced that we were going to do a project of a debate of Athenians vs Spartans. Also we started a journal describing all the research about our City State. Mine was Sparta. After that, she gave us a vote for our book clubs. I got the book called The Black Ship of Troy . Then we started a vote on which group each student would get to do research of the subject, and later get to debate about it. For example, I got the theme art, architecture and culture. I research about the theme that I had, and wrote a speech for the debate. In addition, I created supporting evidence which would be art, posters, etc. I worked hard to find evidence for the debate. The next step was to, constantly had to practice our speeches for the debate. For example, my speech was about the art in Sparta. I made myself think as an a Spartan and defended my City. On the big debate we all try our best, yet the Athens won. Which was all right, because we had learned so much in this project. Finally, the next day we went to a field trip to The Getty Vella in Los Angeles, Ca. We saw lots of arts and sculptures there based on Greek God and Goddesses. This project was a really good experience because it didn't only teach about ancient Greece, It taught us how to do a real life debate. Also it help us how to do research and then put it all in a speech.
What I learned
I will express the knowledge I have acquire throughout this magnificent project. For starters, Sparta was located in the South Eastern of Greece. Some of the most important city states in Ancient Greece where Sparta, Athen, Cordith, Merga, and Argots. All of these were known throughout the ancient world as most powerful Cities. Two of the most important wars fought in ancient Greece were the Peloponnesian war and the Trojan war. The Peloponnesian war this was fought by Sparta vs Athens. The reason for the war was that Spartans were angry with Athens because Athens were getting wealthy with all the City States money. They where guarding the treasure of the city states and the got paid a lot of money for it so they made there city beautiful with that money. Therefore Sparta did not like it and started a war. The trojan war started with the trojan prince Paris steeling Helena the Spartan Queen. The king got angry and told the rest of the city states what happened, and they all supported him in the war.Greek mythology was important in ancient Greece, because the greeks believed in their Gods and they use it to refer to them, when something they could not understand happened. Or if somebody did something really bad, they would say "It was the Gods who trick them or force them to do it" . Some of the most important Gods or Goddesses were Zeus, Poseidon, Ades, Athena, Aphrodite, Ares. Some characteristics that I acquire from art, architecture, and culture was that art is not only for painting or making vases. Art is also apply in war and battle strategy and thats how Sparta use their art. Also poetry played a strong role in Sparta. As well, military in Sparta was really strict. The military trained hard and they thought their soldiers to not express when wounded. Therefore, soldiers showed no expression on their faces. Childhood and schooling in Sparta was different from other cities. Children where removed from their home at early age, around seven. Boys where taught to be soldiers and women were taught gymnastics, wrestling among other sports. Boys were taught how steal but if they got caught they would suffer the consequences of it by being bitten. That girls had more rights than the boys. A really interesting fact was that women had rights in Sparta. Women in Sparta could get divorce, own land. Yet the only limitations they had was that they could not ware jewelry or make up. . even women could have their own olympics. The Spartan culture was different from the rest of the cultures that i had known about.
After this project I felt good about completing something new in my life. The most fun part of this project was changing my appearance and becoming a Spartan. Also I enjoy preparing for the debate. The most challenging part of this project was working with my group, because I am individual worker. I don't work so good with people in projects. I think I did well in this project. I try my best, I did research, learned everything I could in order to be successful in this task . One part of the project that I wish was different is that Sparta will win in the debate or a least my team would win in the debate. If I could do this project again I will try to speak lauder in the debate. After this project I learned how to debate, and how to write an opening and closing speech for any debate. Now, I am sure that I would do better next t
